In 30 years the Edmonton Metropolitan Region will be home to 2.2 million people and 1.2 million jobs. In 2016 we are 1.2 million people and 725,000 jobs so that means more than 17,000 people will come to the region each year, all looking for affordable, high standard of living, good jobs and schools and a variety of communities to choose from to fit their lifestyle.
Understanding how and where we grow helps us to plan and manage in ways that ensure quality of life for current and future residents, and that we remain globally competitive with unique offerings: where each of our 24 member municipalities thrive and are integrated.
Managing growth responsibly means limiting urban sprawl to protect land supply and the cost to build and maintain public infrastructure (transit, roadways, sewer pipes, schools, fire, ambulance and protective services, etc.).
